► Job search
Using the internet
to find job postings online is a common practice today.
But go further than others by applying some smart
and advanced search techniques online
that will help you
find the best-fit opportunities - while
filtering out the thousands
of
other
postings which
are a waste of time.
Also, given your educational and professional background,
it takes good judgment to decide if you are being
too broad or too selective i.e. wasting
your energies chasing every job out there or avoiding the
(sometimes dreaded!)
tasks by looking for the perfect one. A bit of sound
advice and encouragement goes a long way.
► Resume
& cover letter development
When you looking for a job, you are the "product" and
your resume is the "advertisement" (and yes,
the "product
spec"
as well.) I am sure you have seen really bad ads,
really good & memorable ads - and then a whole bunch
of forgettable ones in between! Get some objective
feedback to know where your resume lies in that
range - and what you can do to make it a bit or a lot
better.
Your resume needs to speak for you in the
most eloquent and effective manner. That means paying
attention
to the content, language, style, presentation and fit with
your particular area of job search.
It's also
important to present your experience in terms of the skills
and capabilities you have
picked up along the way (not just tasks completed or
positions
held) - that may help you realize
(and make the case) that you may be qualified for a broader
set of jobs than you may have thought.
► Interview preparation
Almost everyone gets a bit nervous at the prospect of
meeting strangers and then answering 'personal' questions
... and even tooting your own horn - in an appropriate
way! But
a good understanding of the process, the recruiters goals
and yours, gives you a sense of perspective - which along
with some time-tested techniques, can help you present
your relevant credentials in a confident manner.
But its not just
about confidence, there is also the content of your answers
- and a little
anticipation and preparation can make a big difference
in showing the interviewer that you truly have the qualities
& background
they are looking for.

specific, useful advice from an experienced professional
and GET AHEAD!
I have participated directly in all stages of the recruiting
process, hiring college graduates to senior managers, at
some of the best known firms in the world. I apply
that experience and knowledge to assess your needs and goals
and give you specific feedback tailored to your situation
- that puts
you way ahead
of your
competition.
As you can imagine, over the years, I have not just
read some the best books and articles in this area (including
current trends), but have actually observed the full
spectrum of mistakes & issues and lost
opportunities
-
often small ones that prevent the applicant from getting
the job
or even an interview.
I have successfully coached
a wide variety of individuals who have deeply appreciated
my tips and
feedback - and more importantly, my supportive
yet candid style (i.e. not shying away from giving you
feedback
- in a positive way - that would help you overcome any
issues that may be holding you back.) I find it a meaningful
and fulfilling endeavor to help others maximize their potential
and performance - and I wish you the best in your job search!
